Arcie Barham, 87
Arcie Barham, age 87 of Alamogordo, New Mexico died on April 2, 2010 in his home. Arcie was born January 28, 1923 in Riverside, CA. His parents were Roy and Mary Barham. He had a sister, Helen and brother Dell. He was married to Irene Barham on April 5, 1947 in Riverside, CA. He was a World War II veteran of the the 124th Cavalry regiment (last mounted Cavalry) with the China, Burma, India campaign and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He moved to Sante Fe, NM with his wife in 1947 and worked for Mr. Clauson as a brood mare manager. In 1954, he worked for Ms. Pat Dunning as a horse trainer and ranch manager. This was to be his life’s work as a Quarter horse trainer and judge. He made several AQHA Register of Merit Champions. He was also President of the New Mexico Quarter Horse Association and lifetime member of AQHA. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Irene, throughout Mexico, Central and South America. They also traveled to Ireland, Scotland and England. His family and friends will remember his quick wit and lighthearted nature and downright orneriness.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene Barham. His daughter, Becky Torres and husband James. His son, Gordon Barham and wife Jan. He was preceded in death by son, Joel. He has three grandchildren Brett and wife Amber, Julie Ann and husband Mark, and Jennifer and husband Chris, four great grandchildren, Adley, Addison, Christian and Janae. His sister, Helen Wallace of Grassvalley, CA and his great niece, Shannon Knell and husband John. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews of California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, North Dakota, South Carolina and Washington State. And his beloved pets “Sparkey” and son “Smokey.
