Appollonia “Pauline” Lipko, 89, of Gracedale and formerly of Lower Saucon Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Lipko, who died in 1975, and the companion of the late Thomas O’Connell, who died in 1997.
Born in Northampton, Appollonia was the daughter of the late George J. and Mary (Stoicsits) Unger. She worked at the Buchannan Street Senior Center and at the Saucon Valley Community Center, where she was an Assistant Coordinator for over 20 years. She also worked as a presser for the former Lehigh Frocks in Nazareth and the former Lehigh Dress in Fountain Hill. She was also co-owner of the Pied Piper Inn in Bethlehem from 1973 to 1979. Appollonia was a member of St. Ursula Catholic Church, Fountain Hill.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who touched the hearts of her family and friends, and of her caregivers at Gracedale, where she resided since March 2014.
Survivors: She will lovingly be remembered by her son, Michael; granddaughter Breanna DeSpain; great-granddaughter Kayla DeSpain; daughter-in-law Diane (Bruce) Lipko; brothers Charles (Connie) Unger of Northampton, George Unger of The Villages, FL; sisters Theresa (Richard) Kistler of Northampton, Sister Stephanie Marie of Aston, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Appollonia was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and John Unger; sisters Rose Unger, and Mary Klepeiss; and her loving son Bruce, who passed away in December of 2015.
