On December 26, 2015, Antonio Salatti, 100, passed away at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. He was born in Ferrandina, Italy, on February 5, 1915, to the late Maria and Nicola Salatti. Antonio served his country proudly in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant Major upon retirement. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the 44th Infantry Division during WWII, and then was a solo clarinetist in the U.S. Army Field Band from 1947-1975 in which he was also the Concert Master. After his retirement from the Army, Antonio taught guitar and clarinet lessons. He was a classical guitarist and he played at the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York. Antonio was a member of the Musicians Union Local 802 and he enjoyed good food, landscaping, gardening, and certainly music.
Antonio is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Marjorie I. Salatti; his loving daughters, Maria J. Salatti and Tina S. Salatti Appel; his beloved grandchildren, Anthony Gage, Damian Gage, and Sophie Gage; and five cherished great-grandchildren. Antonio was predeceased by his dear son, Nicholas A. Salatti.
