Antonio Gouveia, 84, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, NJ.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal on February 22, 1937, Mr. Gouveia immigrated to the United States in May of 1944 and lived in Newark, NJ. He moved to Kearny in 1960.
Tony served in the U.S. Army.
He earned his B.S. in Criminal Justice from William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ in 1976.
Mr. Gouveia was a Police Officer in the town of Kearny for 35 years and retired in 1996 with the rank of Captain. He was a member of P.B.A. Local 21 and served as President of the Superior Officers Association both of Kearny.
He is survived by his children, Joanne M. Gouveia of Cranford, NJ, Anthony M. Gouveia of Kearny, and John R. Gouveia of Kearny. He was the grandfather of Michael G. and Nicole M. Gouveia.
Tony was predeceased by his wife, June (nee Perry) Gouveia in 2013.
