Antoinette (Ann) Verderame passed peacefully on September 16, 2022. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut to father Arnold (Pete) Frattini and mother Lena Bertolini Frattini on July 5,1931. She was predeceased by her sister Gloria Frattini Quinn and her beloved husband of 55 years Salvatore (Red) Verderame.
Ann graduated from St. Mary’s HS in New Haven. She spent time after high school working as a fashion model for several agencies. She attended Quinnipiac College and the American University of Beirut where she completed her BA degree.
Her work history included positions within the New Haven school system, among them, 6th grade teacher and Vice Principal at St. Martin De Porres elementary school, as well as Social Development coordinator for New Haven Public Schools.
While married to Red, who at the time was a member of the U.S. State Department, Ann and her family established residency in Cairo and Alexandria Egypt, Beirut Lebanon, and Accra Ghana. Throughout the remainder of her life, they enjoyed travelling to over 40 countries, making friends, experiencing local cultures, and learning how to make native dishes which she incorporated into her broad culinary repertoire. Sunday dinners with her family were always the highlight of the week.
Ann spent countless summers enjoying the beach where she could always be found sunning herself on the rocks. Recognized as the Matriarch of Crescent Bluff, she often longed for the old days when children could be heard playing in the street, running back and forth to the beach. Where block parties and the Fourth of July celebrations filled the air, and where neighbors shared and celebrated their lives with each other.
She is survived by her children Jeff Verderame (Sherree) of Leland, NC, Randy Verderame (Dianne) of Westbrook, CT, Jody Ford (Anthony DeNello, William Ford) of Killingworth CT. Grandchildren Taylor Verderame (Rob Sussman), Sara Lombardozzi (Sean), Cody Verderame (Brianna), Hannah Sassone (Vincent), Luke Ford, Molly DeNello, AJ DeNello (Caroline), Melanie and Mark Cirillo. Ann is also survived by her great grandson Sebastian Sussman.
She will be greatly missed by her dear friend Jan family will hold a private celebration of Ann’s life.
