Anthony Verme, 98, originally of St. Louis, MO and last residing in Fairview Heights, IL, peacefully passed away on March 16, 2019.

Tony was born on December 21, 1920 to Antonio and Angela (nee Tosto) Verme. He was born into an extended family of Italian immigrants and took great pride in his heritage.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and was medically discharged in 1943. Following his return home, he attended St Louis Institute of Music and became an accomplished musician, playing viola, English horn and oboe with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He was a featured and well-reviewed soloist, toured extensively throughout the country, and played Carnegie Hall in New York City multiple times.

He also played at the American Theater, the MUNY and the Casa Loma Ballroom. After retirement, Tony enjoyed fishing, traveling, and Cardinals baseball. Late in life when Tony moved to Sullivan, MO with his wife Susie he became an active member of the New Testament Baptist Church.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Angela (nee Tosto) Verme; sisters, Lena, Angie, and Josie; wives, Wanda Verme nee Holzhausen, Rose Verme nee Basone, and Susie Verme nee Bridgeman; and daughter, Marie Harvey. Surviving are his children, Lela (Robert) Satterfield of Oceanside, CA, and Arthur (Cheri) Verme of Florissant, MO; grandchildren, Christopher (Paris) Verme of Goldsboro, NC, Autumn (Paul) Rebillot of St. Louis, MO, Rebecca (Ryan) Westrich of Wentzville, MO, Christina Lowder of Pinckneyville, IL, and Thomas Satterfield of Oceanside, CA; and son-in-law, Michael Harvey of O’Fallon, IL.
