Anthony LeRoi Porter, affectionately known as “Tony”, was born on July 24, 1951 in Freedman’s Hospital in Washington, DC, to the late Albert LeRoi Porter and Dorothy Maureen Porter. He was the second child born to this union. Tony was introduced to Christian life at an early age. As a youth, he attended church regularly as a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and was baptized by Reverend Charles Hayes. Tony worked diligently and faithfully in Sunday School and Church. Tony attended DC Public Schools and Prince George’s Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1970.

As a young boy, Tony enjoyed working and making his own money. From paper routes at age eleven to washing dishes in a restaurant, to working with his other dad, the late Frank Williams, at the Senate Office Building running errands underground, Tony displayed excellent work ethics. Later, he landed a job at the Department of Agriculture, where he worked for 12 years, receiving awards and letters of appreciation. Tony later worked for Metro as a bus driver before joining Smith Barney where he worked tirelessly, receiving bonuses and shares. Tony loved talking and meeting people and he was loved by all of his co-workers. His work was interrupted because of health problems, forcing him to retire early.

Tony leaves to cherish his memory: a loving mother, Dorothy M.
