Anthony B. Lischwe, 89, a former Galesburg Insurance and real estate agent, died May 8, 2013 in Overland Park, KS after a battle with cancer. He lived in Lenexa KS with his daughter, Dr. Jane Lischwe and her family.
Mr. Lischwe was born the son of the late Joseph Bernard and Katherine Gertrude on Feb. 29,1924 in Brinktown, MO where he enjoyed the life of a farmer’s son: fishing, harvesting wheat, and caring for cattle. The seventh of nine children, Tony spent his first 18 years in Brinktown. After high school, he travelled throughout the United States and worked in multiple trades: construction, factories, building bridges over the Mississippi River, driving a taxi cab in Minnesota, and selling farm implements. He travelled as far as Thule, Greenland to build an airport.
Tony met and married his wife Marcelline (Kimmes) in New Trier, MN and eventually moved their growing family to Galesburg, Illinois, where they raised 7 children. Anthony became an agent for Miller’s Mutual Ins. Co. where he worked for 27 years. He was a certified real estate appraiser, insurance and real estate agent, home builder and owned numerous properties in Galesburg. He was very active in the community and joined several organizations: the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce, the Toastmasters, the Knights of Columbus, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where he was an usher for many years.
He retired in 1997 at the age of 73 and travelled to the Lake of the Ozarks to help his son, Dr. Timothy Lischwe with his business and to care for his son, Michael who was fighting a battle with cancer and died in 1998.
In 2000, he travelled to Kansas where his daughter, Jane, lived and sought help in caring for his beloved wife, Marcelline, who was battling cancer. After Marcelline passed away, Anthony became care provider for his grandchildren.
Mr. Lischwe is preceded in death by his wife of 53 yrs. Marcelline, and his son Dr. Michael A. Lischwe. Tony is survived by his sons: Steven, Mark (Kelly) and Dr. Timothy daughters: Dr. Catherine (John) Wright, Dr. Jane Lischwe (Larry Mueller) and Mary Beth (John Hollen). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
