Anthony J. Szurly, 58 of Oakland died on October 12 after a strong and valiant 28-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Tony will be forever missed by his beloved wife, Mary (Galletly). Loving son of Margaret and the late Stanley. Dear brother of Patricia (Kenneth) Weber, Joseph (Amy) and Stephen (Carrie). Uncle of Terry, Eric, Emily, Laszlo and Stanley. Loved son-in-law of Mollie and the late Donald Galletly.
Born in Brooklyn, he grew up in North Babylon, NY, before attending SUNY College of Cortland where he was a collegiate gymnast. After college he joined the Army in order to serve as Assistant Gymnastics Coach and PE Instructor for 5 years at the United States Military Academy (West Point). Afterwards, he worked in management roles in both Corporate Fitness and Customer Contact Centers. Tony was an adventurous lover of life especially when his wife was included.
Tony’s wonderful “life spirit” and the ability to make everyone feel special when they were around him will be missed by all who knew him especially his friends and ex-team mates. Life was always better when it included Tony.
