Anthony J. Lombard of Southbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.

He was born in Waterbury on December 4, 1925 a son of Joseph and Gioconda (DeVito) Lombard of Waterbury. He attended Waterbury schools and graduated from Crosby High School where he was president of his senior class, a standout football player, and a CIAC state champion freestyle swimmer. He also ran track. He worked during the summer as a lifeguard at Hammonasset State Park. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and was extremely proud to have served during WWII on the battleship USS Missouri, from its maiden voyage until after the peace treaty was signed on board by General McArthur. He traveled with his wife, Phyllis, who predeceased him in 2005, to many reunions throughout the country.

After the war he attended the University of Bridgeport where he continued his football career, and graduated in 1950.

He was Treasurer of Lombard Bros., Inc., retiring in 1984 when the company was sold to North Penn Transfer. He belonged to many transportation associations, and was a member of the Waterbury Rotary Club and the Lion’s Club of Woodbury. In retirement he traveled throughout the US and Europe with his beloved wife.
