Anthony Benhart Jr. 85, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Saturday morning, October 16, 2010 at the Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle, Indiana.
Tony was born in Chicago on June 13, 1925 to Anton and Mary (Janovsky) Benhart. His family moved to Three Oaks where he attended Three Oaks Schools. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the Richard B. Anderson Destroyer. On November 22, 1947 he married Shirley L. Kelly in Three Oaks.
Tony worked at Studebakers, and retired from Clark Equipment in Buchanan, after 30 years. He was an electrician and in retirement he worked at Mercy Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph, Michigan for 6 years. During this time he owned and operated Benhart’s Electric Service.Tony was a member of the Buchanan Moose Lodge for 40 years and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
He was also a member of the Three Oaks Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Three Oaks Ambulance Service for several years. He enjoyed deer hunting. Tony’s garden was his pride and joy and he enjoyed sharing the produce with friends and neighbors.Survivors include his wife, his sons, Anthony C. Benhart III of Benton Harbor and Richard W. Benhart of Three Oaks; his grandson Anthony J. Benhart; his brother John Benhart of South Bend, and his faithful dog, Lady.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
