Anthony (Tony) Benedict Hinners was born April 23rd, 1963. He was the 7th child of Kenneth and Katherine (Benedict) Hinners. Tony attended school in Pomeroy and graduated with the Class of 1981. After high school, he graduated from Iowa Central Community College and went straight to Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He also acquired special certification in eye enucleation through the Iowa Donor Network.
When Tony wasn’t working, he could be found driving around with any number of friends, brothers or children on the lookout for deer or an asparagus patch. He loved the outdoors and spent time smoking meat, fishing and hunting anything from turkeys to mushrooms. He spent countless hours showing Ethan all the best spots. Tony looked forward to the weekends spent hunting through every single season with his brothers.
No matter what Tony was doing, he was all in. He infused passion into every event, game, hobby, and conversation. He encouraged everyone to share in his passions. He was on the move constantly; Tony was also a die-hard Iowa Hawkeye fan and rarely watched a game sitting down.
Above all of his hobbies, Tony loved being with his family. Tony was the father of Abby, Anthony, Gavin, Ethan, Eve, and Ben including step-children, Josie (Matthew) and Michael (Elizabeth). Underneath his hard outer shell, he held an enormous amount of love for his children and grandchildren. Tony was excited for the arrival of each and every one of them. He was a protector whenever necessary and would do anything for them, no questions asked. He lived for each of them and treasured the times he spent on the floor roughhousing or lifting them up by his pinky.
Tony had an energy that made his presence known before he walked in the door. He had one volume, loud. He was obnoxious and thrived on being an instigator. He made it his mission to get a rise out of people, many times his sisters. Tony would be considered by many as a hands-on guy. From a firm handshake, to a pinch under your arm, or a claw gripping the back of your neck. His ways of showing others he cared about them usually came with immeasurable intensity. But these were the things that made Tony his own genuine self, and there will never be another like him. He left this world suddenly on April 9th, 2022 at the age of 58. He worked hard, played harder and loved deeply. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Tony is survived by his children: Abby, Anthony, Gavin, Ethan, Eve, and Ben; step-children, Josie and Michael; grandchildren: Ayden, Ollie, Bentley, Audrey, and Erabella; step-grandchildren: Camden, Josiah and Declan, Eliana, Ezriella and Michael Ezra; father, Kenneth Hinners; brothers: Mike Hinners, Tim (Barb) Hinners, Darren Hinners, Paul (Sonja) Hinners, and Brock (Janelle) Hinners; sisters: Kim (Mike) Hart, Stephanie (Chuck) Long, Sandi (Roger) Huster, Gabby (Doug) Hepperle, Kendra (Bryan) Williams, and Alicia (Kelsey) Staiert; countless nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Preceded in death by his mother, Katherine; infant twin siblings, Alfred and Angela; paternal and maternal grandparents.
