Anthony Bernard (A.O.) Ver Meer, son of Otto and Dena Stadt Ver Meer, was born October 1, 1914 in “The Big Brick House” on Highway 163 east of Pella, Iowa. He passed away at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the age of ninety-three years.

On May 17, 1939 Anthony was united in marriage with Jeanette Vander Wal at the home of the bride’s parents. To this union three children were born: Owen, Carol, and Eugene.

Anthony and Jeanette farmed together west of Leighton for twenty-six years before making a move to Leighton in 1965.

Anthony and Jeanette enjoyed fishing, traveling, and camping. Anthony also loved to sing and do woodworking.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his three children and their spouses: Owen and Esther (Steenhoek) Ver Meer of Leighton, Iowa, Carol and James Van Engelenhoven of Pella, Iowa, Eugene and Sandra (Simons) Ver Meer of Centennial, Colorado; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and many friends.

Preceding him in death are: his parents; his wife, Jeanette, on November 8, 1994; and his sister: Henrietta Williams.

Anthony will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
