Ms. Flanagan peacefully passed away a local nursing home facility. She was the last surviving family member of her generation, having reached the age of ninety-nine years.
Annie Zora Flanagan, affectionately called “Sister” by all who knew and loved her, was born May 1, 1915 in El Paso, Texas. She was the second of six children and the only daughter born to Willie and Celester Rabon.
On August 13, 1935, Annie united in marriage with Ples Flanagan. Annie was a loving, caring and supportive wife. The first eight years of their marriage were adventurous. They lived in many places, including Nevada, where Ples worked construction building the Hoover Dam, while Annie enjoyed her role as housewife to a loving husband.
In 1943, Annie and Ples settled in San Diego, California. Their union was blessed with their son and only child, Johnny Ples Flanagan. Annie was a very loving and devoted mother.
Annie was a beautiful and kind woman who lived life to the fullest. She had an infectious laughter. She loved to play cards, dominoes and pool with her family and friends. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
On December 14, 1984, her beloved husband, Ples, passed away. Thereafter, she lived independently until she was ninety-three years of age. Afterwards, she resided with her loving niece and nephew, Mary and Don Ervin, who continued to care for her until her passing. Annie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Henderson, Ezell, Theopolis, T. D. and Willie.
On Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the age of ninety-nine, Annie Zora “Sister” Flanagan slipped away peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by her son, Johnny Ples Flanagan (LaTonya) of Phoenix, Arizona; one granddaughter, Acacia Flanagan; two grandsons, Dale Flanagan and John Flanagan, III; great-grandchildren, Amyia, Jeremiah and Lariah; and a host of nieces and nephews.
