DURHAM Mrs. Annie Lorae Murray Byrd, 85, of Durham, passed away on Monday, February 12, . Byrd was born in Nash County, the daughter of the late George Savannah Murray and Mecie Gray Strickland Murray. She retired from the American Tobacco Company. She was a member of Abundant Life Ministries. She loved her Lord and family and was a true soldier for Christ. She played basketball in High School; was an avid Duke basketball fan and known by many as “Hollywood.” She also enjoyed listening to “Dolly Parton” and dining at Cracker . Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Sherman Byrd; daughter, Marlene Byrd Brown; two brothers, George Savannah Murray, Nelson Murray; six sisters, Betty Murray, Christine Massey, Daphine Tingen, Ruby Murray, Eula Pollock and Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Pam Byrd Andrews (Mike), Teresa Byrd McCabe (fiancé Carl); five grandchildren, Brett Andrews (Brittney), Donald McCabe III, Kelsey McCabe, Joshua Brown (Jodi).
