In Loving Memory
Annette “Annie” Christine (Knapp) Hickie
01/30/1940 – 12/2/2015
Our beloved “Mopsie” was born to the late Annette and George Knapp in Rockaway, New York in 1940. Here, Annie attended St. Agnes High School and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Annie married the love of her life, David William Hickie in 1965 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Annie and Dave settled in Arizona where they spent most of their 50 years of marriage (eight of these in Chicago), raising three wonderful sons.
Annie loved Scottsdale and was a proponent of education. She served as an elected member of the Scottsdale School Board beginning in 1979. She proudly served twice as the Board’s elected President. Annie was a Board Member of “The Concerned Citizens for Community” in South Scottsdale and was a member of the Board of Trustees at Brophy College Preparatory for many years.
Annie was known for her love of chocolate, gummy bears, bubble gum, turducken, and making reservations for dinner. She was proud to say that she never intruded in her sons’ and daughters’-in-law lives, although her opinion was always at the ready. Annie loved sparkly rings, brightly colored nails, charred marshmallows, and sharing her middle finger and colorful language, as necessary. But, most of all, she loved her family.
Annie is survived by her husband Dave, her three sons (all her favorite): Chris (Tacie), Matt (Lisa), and Brian (Stacey), her brother George (Eileen), her cousin Joan O’Donnell, predeceased brothers Frank (Kathy) and Jim (Susan), and her incredible grandchildren: Tara (Brian Kobel), Kendall, Kyle, Ryan, Lydia, Keira, Garret, Ruby, Kailey, Naomi, and her great grandchild, Georgia.
