Annette G. Stanzel, age 83, of Linn Grove, Iowa died Friday, March 3, 2006 at St. Lukes Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Annette Geraldine Schulenburg, the daughter of Alvilda Saxerud Schulenburg and Clarence Schulenburg, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 10, 1922. She was baptized as an infant in St. Paul, Minnesota.

She attended schools through the first grade in Albert Lea, Minnesota where her father was a bus driver for Jefferson River. Her father’s job transfer to Greyhound moved Annette, her mother, and her younger brother, Bob, to Indianapolis, Indiana where Annette entered second grade. The family then moved to New York state living in both Kingston and Middleton before returning to Sioux Rapids in 1933, the result of job loss due to the Depression. Here they made their home with Annette’s grandparents, Lena and Harry Johnson.

Annette graduated with the Sioux Rapids High School class of 1941.

Annette married Robert D. Stanzel on December 29, 1941 in Dakota City, Nebraska. They had three sons, Robert C. Stanzel, James D.

Her work outside the home included several years of waitress work in Sioux Rapids and Linn Grove. Later she and her husband, Bob, owned the Linn Grove Coffee Shop where their broasted chicken was known for miles around.

Annette was a loving wife and devoted mother whose family was always first in her life. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Bob Stanzel; her parents, Clarence Schulenburg and Alvilda Schulenburg Sandburg; brother Bob Schulenburg and his wife Norma; half-sister Shirley Schulenburg Rooney; half-brother Clarence Schulenburg.

Left to cherish Annette’s memory are her sons: Robert Stanzel and his wife Diane of Greenfield, Iowa and Sahuarita, Arizona, James Stanzel of Spencer, Iowa, Dr.
