Annetta Bell died in her sleep at her home in Taft, Friday, November 20, 2009. She was born in Delta, Colorado, September 28, 1915, to Fred and Heather Taft. Ann, as she was known to family and friends, grew up in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Beverly Hills High. Ann met her husband, Paul E. Bell, Sr., in Santa Monica, CA. They moved to Taft in 1939 and opened their business, Bell’s Market on Kern Street, and later Belfair Market on Harrison. Ann excelled in art and taught herself to knit and sew. After her family grew, she opened and operated Ann’s Knit Shop for a number of years in Taft. Ann was active in the community; she was a member of the Westside Recreation Board and belonged to several women’s organizations. Most importantly, Ann was a wonderful homemaker and was admired and loved by her family. Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bell, Sr., her son Paul Jr., and her daughter, Lynda Brooks. Ann is survived by her oldest daughter, Heather Lema of Taft. Ann loved her grandchildren Tony Chawell of Las Vegas, Laura Kuster of Bakersfield, Bryan Bell of Seal Beach, and Michael Bell of San Francisco. In addition she treasured her great-grandchildren, Garret Bell, Allisha and Blake Chadwell, and by her two nieces, Jody Perkins of Truckee, CA and Melinda Pereira of Bellvue, ID.
