Annemarie I. Hines nee Hammerstingl, 87, of Belleville, IL, born in Munich, Germany on August 7, 1932, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at St. Louis University Hospital.

Annemarie was a devoted wife and mother and as such, a dedicated homemaker. She also dearly loved and cared for her grandchildren. She delighted in making traditional Bavarian dishes for her family (homemade “apfelstrudel” was a favorite), and she loved to feed her guests and send them home with treats. Annemarie was a skilled linguist, fluent in German and English, but she also possessed a good working command of French, Spanish, Italian, and Norwegian. Perhaps her most notable passion was her devotion to her faith. Annemarie never missed mass unless getting to church was impossible. One Sunday when the family lived in Norway and the roads were closed because of the deep snow, she insisted we make the journey to church on cross country skis!

Annemarie was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias and Anna (nee Schaeffner) Hammerstingl; husband, Olive J. Hines; and brother, Ludwig “Wiggerl” Hammerstingl.

Annemarie is survived and dearly missed by her children, Christa L. Hines, Maria E. Hines, and John V. Hines; grandchildren, Sarah I. Stromsdorfer, Oliver M. Codd, and Jaimie M. Hartmann; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
