Anne Marie was born to Kenneth A. and Sarah C. Schwartz in Sunnyvale, CA., on November 28, 1960. She lived in Sunnyvale for six years. Council, Idaho became her home in August of 1966.
Anne attended Council schools from first through 12th grade. She made her mark at Council High School on the track team; she was one fast girl! Anne still holds school records in the 100 yard dash, the 220 yard dash and the 880 yard relay.
Anne met the love of her life in eighth grade when Greg Martes moved to Council from Orangeville, CA. She was, at first, wary of the new boy, but soon realized that she had found her soul mate.
September 11, 1982, Anne and Greg sealed their relationship for life in marriage at St.
Anne worked for Pak and Save (now Safeway) in San Jose for 20 years. She made lifelong friends with many of her co workers whom she still kept in touch with even after moving back to Idaho. 2001 marked the year that Anne finally convinced Greg to move their family back to Idaho, or “God’s country” as she referred to it. They found a home in Eagle, Idaho.
Anne and Greg purchased a struggling Mrs. Field’s Cookies at the Boise Towne Square Mall in 2002. Anne worked to build a customer base and a solid work force. Her high expectations were difficult for some of her teen aged workers, but finally she found a crew (thank you Lacy, Shawna and Kiki!
Anne’s diagnosis with cancer in 2005 and her resulting need for myriad appointments prompted them to sell the store in 2007. Anne was very proud of her work with that business. Anne conquered cancer for six years. Although her body finally won the need for rest, her bright smile and strong spirit will live on.
Anne was preceded in death by her father in law Austin Martes in 1998, and her dad, Kenneth A Schwartz, January 25, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Greg Martes, her mother, Sarah Schwartz, her mother-in-law, Marty Martes, their children, Erik, Shane and Kyle, her siblings, Jerome (Linda) Schwartz, Frank (Mary) Schwartz, Kenny Mike (DeeDee) Schwartz, Karla (David) Reynolds, Sue (Rod) Linja, her sisters and brothers in law Judy and Jack Hanson and Nick and Janice Martes, as well as many nieces and nephews.
