Anne M. Loebach, 96 passed away at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Heritage Point, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Anne was born on September 28, 1920 in San Giacamo in the Province of Modena in Northern Italy, the oldest child of Augusto and Teresa (Baccolini) Bernabei. When she was 12 and a half years old she came to America with her mother, younger brother and sister to join their father who had come many years earlier to prepare for their arrival. When they came to the States, the only one who could speak English was her father. The children were enrolled in school and had to start in the first grade to learn English. Luckily Anne was a small person so she didn’t look too out of place with all of the 6 year olds she attended that first year with.

Anne met her husband Clarence at a dance when she was 17 and he was 18 and they married a few years later on August 24, 1940 in St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Spring Valley, IL. They were together for almost 60 years. She and Clarence had four children all of whom survive.

Along with her parents, her husband Clarence, brother Bruno Bernabei, and grandson Nicholas Loebach all preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister Francis McShane, daughter Barbara (James) A. Cavanaugh of North Aurora, IL, three sons: Clarence “Hal” (Diane) Loebach Jr. of Rantoul, IL, Philip J. Loebach of Long Beach, CA, Lawrence (Gina) J. Loebach of South Bend, 8 surviving grandchildren: Laurie (David) Coffey, Leonard Loebach, Karen (Pete) Stroz, David (Lorie) Loebach, Susan (Greg) Manko, Julianna (Justin) Koselke, Angela Loebach (Joshua O’Brien), Gabriella Loebach and 12 great-grandchildren: Ryan, Bryan, Joshua and Bethany Parrish, Emily and Allison Manko, Tyler, Kalen, Sadie and Alina Loebach, and Alex and Thomas Stroz.

She was a very warm and loving person and enjoyed being around people. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she participated in many activities including Altar and Rosary Society, Our Lady Study Group, Harvest House, and many others. She loved her parish very much. With her husband, she was active at the Leighton Center.

Anne loved to travel and returned several times to her birthplace in Italy with her husband and brother and sister and their spouses. There were numerous trips to the East and West coasts to visit children and grandchildren.

She was very devoted to her family and always loved being with them any chance she could. She especially delighted in her grand children and great-grandchildren. She would attend their many activities and sporting events. She was known for her baking and delicious foods. Her Italian kitchen was the center of her home. Her “apple slices” legendary. She loved her house she and her husband built 65 years ago. It was a home of warmth and love where all were welcome.www.kaniewski.com

Anne’s family would like to thank the Center for Hospice for her care in her last days, and especially the loving, caring staff at Heritage Point who became a second family in the last two years. 3545 N. 3545 N.
