ANNE FRANCES MCMULLAN, 50, was born in Tampa, Florida, on 12 August 1963 and died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage on 10 April 2014 in Marbella, Spain, where she was vacationing with friends.

From her sunrise to sunset, Anne loved the ocean, beach, and sun—and renewed herself by spending time there with family and friends. Anne grew up in Atlanta where she attended Fernbank Elementary and Druid Hills High School, making lifelong friends. At Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, Anne served in the Nursery; and she was an outgoing and energetic Candy Striper at both Wesley Woods and DeKalb General Hospital. Upon graduation from Druid Hills, Anne managed a Lenox Square retail store for one year before enrolling at the University of Georgia. After fully engaging in nearly all the social activities that Athens could afford, Anne transferred to Georgia State University and graduated Cum Laude in Hospitality Management, and was awarded the Outstanding Scholarship Award by GSU’s Mortar Board Honor Society. Next, she trained as an executive chef at the Culinary Institute of Washington, D.C.; she lived there and in nearby Annapolis, Maryland, for several years. At the Smithsonian Institute, Anne catered large events where she served Heads of State and Dignitaries. She continued her career in hospitality and catering for nearly eight years in Coconut Grove, Florida, before returning home to Atlanta.

Quickly with a smile and laughter, Anne found beauty everywhere and dearly loved the excitement of travel. As a high school junior she spent half a year in Thessaloniki, Greece, with the Schuchard family; and through UGA’s study abroad program she lived in Valencia, Spain, where she travelled to Barcelona and marveled at the wonderful works of renowned architect Gaudi and especially his triumphant cathedral, La Sagrada Familia. A free spirit, Anne was sweet, caring, non-judgmental, fun-loving, creative, and engaging, undergirded by a strong faith and love of God and His people. Like Rudyard Kipling’s storied character, Anne truly was a Friend of All the World. On a dream trip with life-long amiga, Katherine Ashley Schuchard Howard, and Ashley’s daughter, Katherine Austin Howard, Anne passed away peacefully in Costa del Sol, in beautiful Marbella. Prior to departing Atlanta for Spain, Anne’s last words to her mother were: Peace be With You! The McMullan family is deeply indebted to Ashley and to Austin for their heroic efforts and unyielding loyalty in helping bridge the unbearable chasm of distance and time; to Jose Montero Ruiz de Molina for his tireless assistance in helping make sense of this tragic circumstance; and to other friends who gave timely and helpful aid.

Anne’s family is comforted by her many friends and the close-knit community of Druid Hills whose members have helped lift up a life full of joy. Anne cherished her family, and always was at the center of the fun whether at UGA tailgating or preparing extraordinary eggs benedict & hollandaise every Christmas brunch. She adored her father, mother, siblings, niece, nephews, and cousins.

Anne is survived by her parents, John Francis and Marilyn Memory McMullan, as well as by her siblings: Jane Memory McMullan; Thomas Leverette McMullan; and John Edward McMullan (Catherine) whose children, Madeline, William, Jack, and Buckley, adored their Aunt Anne. Family is everything, and Anne likewise would want us to acknowledge her Atlanta area close relatives, including her uncle Samuel Whitfield Memory; her uncle Jesse Norman Memory (Connie); her cousin Jay Norman Memory (Kappy) whose daughter, Ellie, was yet another joy; and her cousin, Daniel Thorsen Memory, of Chicago. She also is survived by other cousins and friends who made such a marvelous impact on her eventful life.
