Another angel got her wings. Anne deFremery Muller, age 67, of Nampa and formerly Marsing, passed away early Monday morning, February 26, 2018 after a long battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA). Anne was born to Paul and Pat (Kydd) deFremery on October 29, 1950 in San Francisco. She grew up in Mill Valley, Marin County, California and attended school there, where she met her lifelong friend, Kim Hilsman. Anne was the second of two children. She married and moved to Idaho in 1968.
Anne loved gardening, animal husbandry, winemaking, horses and dogs. She also enjoyed rodeoing with her mother-in-law, Nelma Muller, participating in the pole bending and barrel racing events sanctioned by the Idaho Girls Rodeo Association. She was the IGRA goat tying director for two years.
In 1977 she and her husband adopted two children. Both boys, Isaac and Robert, arrived at their home within a month of each other. Anne had her hands full with the kids and ranch life. After her divorce Anne went to work for Betty Stevens cooking at the Sandbar. That job led to a life long friendship with Betty and was the beginning of her career in the restaurant business. Anne worked at the old Sandbar restaurant on the Snake River, Hasbrouck House, and Generations prior to “the girls” moving their restaurant into the old Owyhee Lounge (Shadows) in Marsing. Later they bought and remodeled the building that came to be known as the Sandbar Riverhouse. Anne, with the financial help of her parents, gradually bought out the rest of her partners and became the sole owner of the Sandbar. She eventually sold the business due to health problems.
Her diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy led to a career change. She took some courses in office work and commuted to Boise for a couple of years doing medical insurance billing. When her friend Betty became ill, Anne began her stint as a caregiver, attending to both Betty and Cecil Bish in their home in Marsing until their passing. That experience was very important to her next challenge. Anne’s mother, Pat deFremery, had been caring for her father, Paul (who was experiencing age related dementia) until her passing in 2009. In the spring of 2010, two weeks after Anne was initially diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she flew to California to help move her father, Paul deFremery, to Idaho to live with her at her home in Marsing. Thereafter she devoted herself to the care and well being of her father.
In July of 2011 the challenges of staying at home became to much for them. Anne, her father, and her cranky little Daisy dog moved into a suite at Sunny Ridge Retirement in the independent living wing. The continual decline in both Anne and Paul’s health led to a move into Assisted Living in 2013 and Daisy going to live with her groomer, Stephanie Hibberd, at Pretty Paws. Anne’s father passed in 2014 and Anne remained in the Assisted Living Facility/Residential Care Unit. Anne’s most recent diagnosis of MSA and failing ability to care for herself resulted in a move to Sunny Ridge Skilled Nursing care in September of 2017 and then to Ashley Manor – Arlington in January 2017.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents Pat and Paul deFremery. She is survived by her children: Isaac (Nichole) Muller and their children, Alisa, Lucy, Carter, Hank and Ty of Nampa, Idaho; Robert (Amanda) Muller and their children Kyren and Reegan of Marsing, Idaho; brother Pete deFremery of Larkspur, California, sister-in-law Kathy deFremery and their children Wayne of Korea, and Michelle of Virginia; an aunt, Phyllis Faber of Mill Valley, California; and special long time friends Johnnie Edwards and Antonio Cuevas of Nampa, Idaho; Connie Brandau of Wilson, Idaho; and Kim Hilsman of Rohnert Park, California.
