Anna Margaret Mahoney, 91, of rural Ashland, IL died Saturday evening, September 20, 2008 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL.
She was born September 24, 1916 in New Berlin, IL; the daughter of Theodore and Alice Stapleton Meier. She married Richard Harold Mahoney on August 27, 1942 at St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church in New Berlin and he preceded in death on September 25, 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Rogers (husband, Richard) of rural Ashland; three granddaughters, Michele Fahey (husband, Andrew) of Springfield, Alicia Rawlings (husband, Matthew) of Springfield, and Angie Muller (husband, Wade) of Jacksonville; four great grandchildren, Brendan and Brigid Fahey and Matthew and Anna Muller; a sister, Alice Boarman (husband, Bill) of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sr. Mary Mercita and Mary Dullenty, and three brothers, Vincent Meier (surviving wife, Margaret of New Berlin), James Meier, and Joseph Meier.
Mrs. Mahoney was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and Springfield College in Illinois. She taught at country schools in Loami and Bluffs Springs and later substitute taught for many years in the Ashland and Pleasant Plains School Districts. She was a devoted member of St. Augustine Parish and its Altar Society. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends especially attending the many activities involving her grandchildren.
