On Sunday, December 22, 2019, Anna Mae (Ann) Mitchell went to be with her Lord and Savior at her home in Belton after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Llewellyn and Mary Sassman; her sister Audrey Scheren; her youngest daughter Marta Swanson; her grandson Thomas Alston, along with numerous family and friends she loved dearly.
Ann was born in New Jersey at McKinley Hospital in May of 1927. She lived in the Princeton-Hightstown area for 50 years before moving to Belton, Texas for her remaining years.
Mrs. Mitchell attended Penns Neck School and Princeton High School. After graduating, she took evening classes at Rider College, then in Trenton, New Jersey. She married Michael Glynn Mitchell in 1950. Together, they had four children: Donnabeth Mitchell of Oklahoma; Glynna Mitchell of Texas; James D. Mitchell of New Jersey; and Marta Swanson (deceased). She had four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ann was always an active and faith filled Christian. She was a member of Miller Heights Baptist Church and was active at the Belton Senior Center where she knitted items for seniors (lap robes). Mrs. Mitchell also crocheted and knitted baby blankets, church purses, and hats that she donated to Ronald McDonald House and McLane’s Children’s Hospital, with many of her hand-made items finding their way to homeless shelters for those in need. She was also active in the welcoming home of troops at Ft. Hood and she enjoyed baking and sharing the “sweeter side of life” to those she held dear.
At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family and, with the help of Gentle Transition Hospice, Ann made that great journey Home.
