On Sunday evening, March 29, 2009, surrounded in love by her family, Anna Mary (Nan) Measey reunited with her “Honey” William Measey. She was born on November 13, 1921 and lived her entire life as a resident of Burlington and as a member of St. Paul’s Church. A graduate of the Wilbur Watts High School, Class of 1939, she helped form the “Girl Cadets,” in which she was a snare drummer and the Junior Ancient Order of Hibernians, in which she served as president for three years. Working as a lab analyst at Rohm & Haas during World War II, she was proud to have been the only female glass blower and one of the forwards for the company’s ladies’ basketball team. After World War II, she married the love of her life and together they had six children.

The original Multi-Tasker, Nan was an active member of St. Paul’s P.T.A, Catholic Daughters of America (as Grand Regent), Girl Scout Cookie Mom, the Good Cheer Club and the Altar Rosary Society. In her later years, she enjoyed working at the Measey Flower Shoppe. Nan enjoyed crocheting, reading, square-dancing with the Triple Town Twirlers and, in particular, she loved writing poetry. After her husband’s death in 1988, she wrote “There’s a Birthday Party in Heaven,” which she entered in a national poetry contest, winning Second Prize out of 780 entrants. She wrote a book of poems when she was just 15 years old and continued writing until her death. She also loved cooking and entertaining her family and friends.

Her best recipe for life was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Wife of the late William W. Measey, Nan is survived by her 6 children: Maryann (Walter) Ciechanowski, Karen (Edward) Brough, William (Ann) Measey, Nancy Measey (John) Kurts, Patricia (Russ) Brankley and Thomas (Cassandra) Measey, her 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her sisters, Margaret Montalto, Mary Fosbrook and Dorothy Nolan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant brother Thomas and her sister Catherine.
