Family and friends are invited to attend..Katherine was born December 4, 1919, in Westonia, MS, to Louis and Nellie Summers and grew up in Logtown, MS. When World War II began, the family was living in Meridian, and Katherine became a Rosie The Riveter at Key Field.Katherine was the beloved wife of the late Harold Martensen, Sr. She is survived by her children: Kathi (Lou Irwin) Martensen of New Orleans, LA; Buddy (Brenda) Martensen of Corinth, TX; Lou (Pam) Martensen of Oklahoma City, OK; and Bernell Martensen of Long Beach, MS; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Mamie McRee of Picayune, MS and Vinette (Dave) McClain of Merritt Island, FL; her brother: Russell (Mary) Summers of Lake Hillsdale, MS; her sister-in-law: Fannie Summers of Picayune, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.Katherine was a devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was involved in many volunteer activities in the community. She loved Picayune and took great pride in telling everyone she met that she was from Picayune, MS. Katherine was very out-going and made many friends at the Lakeview Shepherd Center in the three years she lived in New Orleans. She enjoyed going to museums, concerts, and restaurants, but she always missed Picayune and her many friends here. She was very proud that the Picayune School System awarded her an honorary diploma at a ceremony at the Shepherd Center in 2017, since she had left high school in the eleventh grade to help support her family during the family wishesto thank the staff of Legacy Hospice, her Eucharistic Minister Regina Douvillier, and her private caretakers, Felicia Foster and Terri Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Lakeview Shepherd Center, or the National Kidney Foundation.
