Mrs. Anna (Gualtieri) Rankin
Norwich – Anna (Gualtieri) Rankin, 97 of Norwich, died peacefully in Mystic, CT on Sunday November 25, 2012, following a brief Illness. Mrs. Rankin was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Anderson Rankin, previously co-proprietor of RH Snow Memorial Works in Norwichtown.
Anna was born on February 20, 1915 in Bush Illinois. She was the daughter of Simone and Teresa (Torraca) Gualtieri. While born in the United States, Anna spent her development/academic years in Carrara, Italy, where she became a seamstress, a skill she maintained and loved to this day.
She was a loving wife of 56 years, proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother for whom family was everything. Her nickname was Biz, short for “bisnonna”, great grandmother in Italian. Anna was an avid Bingo player, and enjoyed playing the slot machines.
Anna leaves her son, James Herbert Rankin of Salem, CT and daughter and son-in law, Paula & Carmine Paolino of Woodbury, CT, her daughter in law, Carolyn Rankin of Norwich and grandchildren: Theresa Rankin-Carle & John Carle and Elizabeth Rankin of Norwich; Dante and Rebecca Paolino of Farmington and great grand children Remington, Jason and Simon Carle of Norwich. Anna is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Gualtieri of Pawcatuck and Mario Gualtieri of Norwich, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, James Herbert Rankin Jr. and brothers’ Peter and Deno Gualtieri of Norwich.
