Montville – Anna Willis of Montville, CT passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital, on January 26, 2021.  She was 56.  As a Mohegan Tribal member her Native American name was, Wyungwadsquaw, which means “Smiling Woman”.  She was proud of her Indian heritage.

Anna has been active most of her life.  Married in Norwich, she worked as a baker part time at the local supermarket.  After taking a business course at OIC, in New London, she began working for the tribe as an office coordinator, as they began construction on the resort casino.  She retired to concentrate all her time raising her sons.  

She was a loving and caring soul, quick to help those in need.  The light of her life was her sons Anthony and Brian.  She cherished them and loved them with all her heart.  She was always there for them.  Her fondest memory is of the three of them in their regalia dancing at the Mohegan Tribal Recognition Ceremony.

Anna liked cruising.

Anna made a difference in this world.  Her caring nature touched so many, and she will forever and ever be sadly missed.

Anna is survived by her husband Leonard Willis; children Anthony Willis and Brian Willis; sisters Stepheny Dillillo, Autumn Cholewa and Jessica Thompson; brothers Albert Deizeck and Brendon Cholewa.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth Wadley and Mitchell Cholewa.
