Anna was born in Muncie on March 19, 1943, the daughter of William and Rosemary (Harty) Thompson, and attended Stoney Creek – Randolph County and Farmland High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-father, Glenn Carr; a son, James Allen Long; and a brother, Billy Gene Thompson.
