Mrs. Ann Ruth Odiorne, 90, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, overnight on Wednesday October 13, 2010, at home. Her husband, Howard Hatch “Tom” Odiorne, 87, died March 30, 2010, never fully recovering from an auto accident. Ann was born August 2, 1920 to W. Monroe Smith and Dicey Wood Smith of Roanoke, Alabama. Tom was born January 4, 1923 to Howard Edwin Odiorne and Sybil Hatch Odiorne of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Tom and Ann were married May 6, 1944. Their loving marriage began in Miami, Florida, where both were serving in the Army during World War II. Ann was a nurse and Tom became pilot of a crash boat, part of “the Army’s navy,” in the Pacific theatre. While an R.N. at Fort Logan, Ann fell in love with Colorado; after living in several states, Tom and Ann relocated to Denver and then Littleton. Ann became a full-time mom, raising six kids while Tom pursued a career in geology and oil exploration in the Western U.S. with several companies including Sunoco, Phillips, Empire, Glasscock and finally retiring from Amerada Hess. The couple is survived by six children: Don (Candy), Idaho; Sharon McEnany (Pat), Utah; Connie Lipinski (Nick), Arizona; Ken, Colorado; Tim, Florida; and Suzanne Webster (Paul), Colorado, numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Tom was a practical joker, as many a Littleton neighbor or Denver co-worker will attest; it was sad that he passed away one day before his “official” holiday – April Fool’s Day. Ann was a devoted mother, hostess, rockhound, gardener and an amazing cook, with a repertoire of Southern-style foods. Tom’s hobbies included gardening, photography, rockhounding, drawing and painting. While both absolutely loved raising kids, later in life they traveled every winter to their adopted second home of Navarre Beach, Florida to gather shells on the snow-white Gulf shore.
