Softly and tenderly, on Friday, June 16, Loie, was called home by her Savior. Loie was born on August 18, 1936 in Manhattan, Montana, to the late Al and Marie Dykema.
While a small girl, the family moved to Kalamazoo, and Loie attended and graduated from the Kalamazoo Christian Schools.
In 1957, she married Chuck Block, enjoying 52 years of marriage. He precedes her in death. Working side by side, Chuck and Loie, who both shared a love of God’s creation, started Wolverine Lawn Maintenance. She had such fun with family and friends, was hospitable among the dust and chaos of family life, baked wonderful pies, sent encouraging notes a little late, and was content to putz around in the back 40. In all this, there was nothing more important to her than being the hands and feet of Jesus to all she would meet as she went about her day. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church, loved her church family, and enjoyed serving wherever needed.
Her most precious possessions were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by 5 children- Sheri (Don) Klooster, Tom (Amy) Block, Dan (Karen) Block, Julie (Rick) Ahlberg and Kim (Mike) Dunlap. 17 grandchildren- Matt (Andrea) Klooster, Ben (Kristen) Klooster, Elizabeth (Matt) Scheffers, Kayleigh (Matt) Veldt, Lauren, Marquette, Savannah, Brooklyn and MacKinney Block, Erica and Derek Block, Mandy (Tim) Johnson, Tory (Katey) Ahlberg, Jon Bontekoe, Alison, Jared and Katie Dunlap. 8 Great- grandchildren she would have delighted in- Matthew and Cadence Klooster, Reese and Quinn Klooster, Emory and Liliann Veldt, Hailey and Ethan Johnson and Lyla Ahlberg, with baby Scheffers due in December. Loie is also survived by a sister, Clare (Henry) Visser, in-laws Roger, Wayne, Harold and Pat and Marv and Carol Block, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, and a sister Gladys (Larry) Shoemaker.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.’
