Ann Julia Sheedy, 74, of Lebanon, CT, widow of Edmund N. Leete passed away on December 3, 2022 at home.
She was born in Torrington, CT on April 18, 1948 to John and Marion (McElhone) Sheedy but moved to New Hartford, CT shortly afterward. Ann attended St. Mary School in New Hartford, Class of 1962 and began her secondary school studies at Regional #7. The family moved back to Torrington, and she graduated from Torrington High School, Class of 1966. She attended Boston University from 1967-1970 part-time, and transferred to Eastern Connecticut State College, Class of 1973 with a BA in Applied Social Relations, Magna Cum Laude. Ann returned to Eastern later in life to study music.
Ann worked at the American Thread Company in Willimantic to pay for her schooling at Eastern. She packed yarn and loved how colorful it was. After graduation, she worked for the Migratory Children’s Program and the Bilingual Program at Kramer School. Most of her career was devoted to the Dept.
Ann was a member of the Anne Wood Elderkin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Kellogg-Atwater Chapter of the Daughters of the Union 1891-1865, and the National Society of Descendants of Textile Workers of America. She had previously organized the Litchfield County Youth Council NAACP and organized a march honoring the Selma Marchers, calling it a March from Torrington, the birthplace of John Brown, to Litchfield, the birthplace of Harriet Beecher Stowe.
She leaves two foster children, Richard Persico of Middletown, NJ and Susan Roberts of Voluntown, CT, two brothers Jack Sheedy of Harwinton, CT and Thomas Sheedy of Lebanon, CT, four grandsons, two nieces, seven nephews, three great grandnieces, and one great grandnephew. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Margaret Booska Imhoff and brother Gerald Sheedy.
