Anita Penfold, age 93, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2010. Born in Lima, Peru, on June 25, 1917, Mrs. Penfold was the daughter of Georges Vanhagendorn and Jeanne Bossu. Her father was a Belgian Diplomat in Peru. Residing in Belgium during World War II, she moved to New York City in the early 1950″s to work for the United Nations Belgian delegation. Later she married and a daughter, Karen J. Penfold was born. Raising her family in New York and California, she moved to Boerne in 1982. She dearly loved the Hill Country and Boerne. Anita was an accomplished harpsichordist, and painter. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making afghans, as well as lovely sweaters. Known as the “quiet” donator, she produced over 100 afghan blankets for the Mexican village of Boquillas following the border being closed as the result of 911. She was a pioneer of going green ” a lifelong proponent of re cycling and re using. Loving the out of doors, she had a particular fondness for animals, especially cats. Preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Karen, Anita is survived by her son ” in ” law, Paul Freeman and two granddaughters, Kristina Freeman and Kimberly Freeman.
