Angel Nonnato V. Lleva passed away peacefully, at the age of 49, on January 7, 2018, Epiphany Sunday, in his home for more than a year in Bridgewater, New Jersey. He had suffered from complications due to Anoxic Brain Injury as a result of a near-drowning accident where, typical of Angel’s character, he was trying to save a friend in trouble. Boyet, as he is fondly called by his family and close friends, previously resided in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he worked as a nurse at Fort Walton BeachMedicalCenter and EglinAirForceBaseHospital for more than 15 years.
His nephews and nieces adored their Tito Boyet who loved taking them to the movies, making them tie-dye shirts, bringing them to the beach with a box of Krispy Kremes, and taking pictures of everybody on every occasion, special or not. He was Master Angel to his Hwa Rang Do martial arts family, a passion and discipline he pursued since he was 11 years old, earning him a 6th degree black belt. He was a member of Triskelion, a brotherhood of high school batch mates to whom he committed to attend every reunion or event. He was a “son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, teacher, and martial artist” in their truest sense. A man of few words, he was compassionate and spiritual and always had a ready smile, a kind word, a soft prayer, or a warm advice for everyone, be it patient, coworker, friend or family. While teaching martial arts required a certain degree of firmness, he did so with a sense of humility and respect. To sum up the impact he had on the people he has touched, he taught us how it is to live.
He was predeceased by his parents Oscar+ and Nolita+. He will be lovingly remembered by his precious children Ariel and Alexander Jacob “AJ”, his siblings Nadja (Jessie+) Bass, Marte (Adel), Marilou (Edu) Cueva, Oscar Jr. (Joy), Moses (Molly), Marian (Joe) Michenfelder, Laura (Ric) Valenzuela, Dante David (Ieda), Edita (Ralph) McCoig and his numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues and friends.
