Andy M. Jensen, 84, passed away March 7, 2018, surrounded by his family in Columbus, Nebraska,  He was born November 28, 1933 near Nora, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children of Niels and Matilda Larson-Jensen.

Andy attended rural Beach School through eighth grade & was a 1951 graduate from Hardy, Nebraska High School. In December of that year, Andy started working as a lineman for just $1.07 an hour at what was then known as Consumers Public Power in Superior. Transfers took him to York and Columbus where his work with the power companies continued. Andy’s job took him all over Nebraska, he retired in 1987 as a Training Specialist with the Nebraska Public Power District.

Throughout all the moves, his wife, Senga, was by his side. The two met in Guide Rock in 1952. Three years later, they were married at the Baptist church in Guide Rock.

Family was always first but his second love was the land. Andy could often be seen working the land on his John Deere tractor, mending fences and clearing musk thistles. The farmstead was busiest though on Thanksgiving. Andy and Senga loved hosting family and friends at the home.

Andy also kept busy as a member of the Lions, Elks and Eagles Clubs. He was even Lion of the Year. In his younger days, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Superior and York.

He had a heart for the Lord and was a God-fearing man who loved to sing hymns in church.

He is survived by his wife Senga, sons Monte (Annette) and Mitch (Nora) and grandchildren Lucas, Rachel, Adam and Reid.

Southern Nebraska the home of this lad
A country school and dry winds was about all we had.
The boyhood days were not all that great
But somehow we made it in reasonable shape.

At age 21 and really starting out in life
I asked my maker, Could I, Could I have a wife?
And God thought that was the greatest thing
There’s this girl up the valley, why not give her a ring?

Alas, three years of wedded bliss
We decided that something was surely amiss,
We prayed to God that very night
Could we, could we, have some children if we raise them right?

If they were square in the shoulders
And about 6 foot 3.

It wasn’t long until the packages came
But my goodness gracious who shall we blame?
Oh they were boys all right, but my they were small
They couldn’t walk or even crawl.

Mother in her wisdom said Ah Daddy don’t fret.
I’ll nurse them, I’ll feed them and change them when they are wet,
And just as Mother’s always seem to know,
My goodness gracious how those boys did grow.

But our little house and lot was small
There was hardly any room where we could play ball
I decided then I’d take a chance
And asked our God could I buy a ranch?

The wrath of God came down on me
You can’t buy my world, it’s not for sale you see,
But if you’ll love my land as you say you do –
I’ve got this lifetime lease for you.

Those boys and I
With guns in our hands
Have romped every acre
Of God’s leased land.

So you say to me, where are the boys now?
They’re out there in the world figuring out how
To live in this world with all of it’s problems and strife
Battling hard to cope with those elements of life.

Yeh, now it’s Mother and I pretty much alone
But we know those boys love us, and they’ll be back home,
So now here’s Thanksgiving Day in 84,
We’ve got everything we need, but still wishing for more.

By now I hear you say at me
Set that guy down he’s out of his tree
But when you ask me to speak, you are sure to get bored.
When I talk of thankfulness I owe my Lord.

Andy Jensen
