Andy Harrison Chee, 35, longtime Flagstaff resident and Special Olympian died Tuesday, August 31, 2010. He was of the Mexican Clan and born for the Tower House Clan.
Andy spent the majority of his life in Arizona living with Tricia Roach, his foster mom. He attended Marshall Elementary, Flagstaff Middle School, and Flagstaff High School. After graduation, he began employment at Peaksview Bulk Mailing Company where he worked side by side with wonderful friends learning job independence and polishing his verbal and social skills. His afternoons were spent practicing for Special Olympics events and hanging out with friends through the City of Flagstaff Therapeutic Recreation Program. He traveled from coast to coast, visiting Disneyland in California, family members in the Boston area and many places in between.
Andy’s words were measured, but his feelings were often expressed in the beautiful smiles and high fives eagerly offered. He loved Diamondbacks baseball, sharing season tickets with Tricia and cheering at the 2001 World Series games in person. He excelled at swimming, track and field, ice skating and cross-country skiing, winning numerous medals and ribbons over the years which he proudly hung on the wall of his room.
Andy’s ability to live one day at a time and enjoy each moment of his life is a gift that he shared with all who knew him. He filled the lives of those around him with love, light and color. It is for this reason that the family requests that those attending his service come dressed in bright colors, to honor this beautiful young man.
Andy is survived by his foster mom, Tricia Roach and his Navajo mom, Mary Lou Chee. His sisters Orlanda and Marlanda and his brothers Randy, Michael, Derrick, Derren, Eric, and Nathaniel Ciccotelli will miss him deeply. His eight aunts and two uncles also profoundly feel the loss of their nephew. He is preceded in death by his father Andrew Chee, his sister Yolanda Chee, his niece Ray Ray and his foster grandmother, Vicki Gramer.
