Andrew E. “Andy” Mellish, 70, of North Oakland Drive, Chicora, died at 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Butler Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Mellish was born in Herman on February 16, 1939. He was the son of John J. and Ida A. Stutz Mellish.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany.
He attended St. Mary School in Herman and Butler High School.
Mr. Mellish enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, dirt track racing, and playing cards. He was a member of the R.C. Men’s Club, The Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club, and the Owl’s Club of Russellton.
Mr. Mellish had been employed at Friedman’s Supermarkets for more than 47 years, having worked 38 years at Friedman’s in Chicora. He retired in 2008 as the manager of the meat department in Chicora.
Mr. Mellish is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Weiland Mellish, whom he married on May 15, 1965 at St. Wendelin Church. He is survived by a daughter, Tina Marie Scarborough and her husband Eric, and two grandchildren, Alex M. Scarborough and Madelynn R. Scarborough, all of Mars. Four brothers survive, Joseph Mellish and his wife Nancy of Saxonburg, George Mellish of Butler, Raymond Mellish and his wife Joan of Warrenton, Va., and Francis “Buzzy” Mellish of East Butler, and four sisters, Mary Osche and her husband Richard of Butler, Bernadette Brockman and her husband Thomas of Fenelton, Rosemarie Trimbur and her husband Charles of Butler, and Clara Fundark and her husband Richard of Butler. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mellish was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Judy Mellish, and Brenda Mellish.
