Andrew C. Peterson, age 90, of Salem, died Tuesday night, October 8, 2013 at the Salem Community Hospital. He was born December 22, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Michael J. and Catherine M. (Kadia) Peterson. Andrew was a patrolman with the Goshen Police Department for five years and was previously with the Youngstown Police Department for 21 years, retiring in 1982. In his earlier years, had also worked at Wean United and the Youngstown Golden Gloves Boxing Club in Youngstown. He was a welterweight fighter and had fought in Golden Gloves matches. He was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, Salem VFW Post 892, Youngstown VFW and he served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. His wife, Maria Roseann (Cavalcanti) Peterson, whom he married July 4, 1960, preceded him in death July 8, 1992. Survivors include a son in-law Charles Mahoney with whom he resided; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
