Life Reflections

Andre Reynolds “Prince” Woods was born on October 15, 1958 in Queens General Hospital in Jamaica, Queens, New York to Genell Walker Woods and the late Andrew    Rudolph Woods. He transitioned on July 15, 2021.

Andre was born into a family of entrepreneurs that migrated from the South to Jamaica Queens. In the 50’s his grandmother owned a toy store and a beauty parlor, an uncle owned a variety store which he worked in, another uncle owned a cab stand and his father owned a real estate business. This exposed him to an especially strong work ethic.

Growing up he played a variety of sports – baseball, basketball and football. Through these activities he has maintained lifelong friends – especially THE DEAD END BOYS. Prince had a vivacious personality.

Andre attended Hillcrest High School in Queens, New York and was on the varsity basketball team. During his high school years he began searching for a cultural and spiritual identity and discovered the Nation of Gods and Earths [5 Percent Nation] – thus he was given the name “Prince”. Often times you could find Prince and the Gods on the block discussing social, health and cultural issues.

Prince met Vanessa La-Asia Moore at the East Elmhurst Corona Park Jam. They became a couple and out of this union Princess Niqua Nature Woods was born. Princess is a true Daddy’s girl. He was her confidant, taught her many important life lessons and was  supportive in every way possible. His grandchildren loving called him “Pee Pa” and he adored them!

Celebrate

Weep not for me though I am gone

Into that gentle night

Grieve if you will, but not for long

Upon my soul’s sweet flight

I am at peace, my soul’s at rest

There is no need for tears.

For with your love I was so blessed

For all those many years.

There is no pain, I suffer not,

The fear now all is gone.

Put now these things out of your thoughts

In your memory I live on.

Remember not my fight for breath

 Remember not the strife

But celebrate my life.
