Amy Bird, 90, of Moscow

Amy Nelle Bird, 90, died of age-related causes Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at her home in Moscow. She and her husband of 66 years, Bob Bird, had moved to Moscow in August. Amy was born July 21, 1927, at Thorp, Wash., west of Ellensburg. She was the fifth of 11 children of Herbert and Ileen (Hyder) Legg, who had moved to Washington from Hawkins County, Tenn., the previous year. She grew up on her family’s farm in Kittitas, Wash., graduating from Kittitas High School in 1945. She and her siblings delivered the Ellensburg Daily Record and helped their parents on the farm. Amy attended Central Washington College of Education (now Central Washington University), graduating in 1949 with a degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten in Bellevue, Yakima and Ellensburg. In December of 1950, Amy met Robert “Bob” Bird, who had moved to Ellensburg from North Carolina. They were married Dec.
