Amy Elizabeth (Davies) Yingling, 95, died Saturday, October 3, 2009.

She was born on January 25, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Amy grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Sweet Briar College in Virginia with a B.A. in history.

In Philadelphia, during World War II, Amy served as one of the first WAVES in the United States Navy. After the war, she returned to college, where she earned a degree in medical social work from Carnegie Mellon University. From there, Amy worked as a social worker the Veteran’s Administration in Pennsylvania. In 1965, she married John Yingling and moved to Emlenton. Amy was very active in the Emlenton community, principally through her management of the Emlenton Food Cupboard. She was also a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church. In 2002, she moved to Hartsfield Village in Munster to be closer to her brother and his family. She also became an active member of Ridge United Methodist Church.

Amy will be remembered for her dedication to helping less fortunate people and for her great appreciation of nature.
