Amelia Torres (73) passed on Monday August 1st, 2022, in Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. She was born on November 14th, 1948, to parents were Emilio Aranda Rabago and Rosa Vasquez Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. She grew up in Mexico and then San Antonio, Texas.

Her childhood was very simple. She was blessed to live her early years with several uncles and her Grandparents.  They helped with her because Grandma Rosa was a single parent. She would remember her uncles and Grandparents fondly because they helped take care of her.  The Uncles and Grandfather would be a farther figure with lots of love and attention, and the aunts and Grandmother would lend time and energy on skills a lady needs to enhance her family. She often spoke of the times she would walk to the store to get ice cream with her grandfather.  She loved talking about cooking with her Grandmother. She used to read books; she loved books.  She watched Spanish novellas. She enjoyed all sorts of music, she did not have a favorite type, she had a very well-rounded love for all music, because she also loved to dance. She sang with the Choir in high school. Like all her friends she would hang out at Tigers Den after school. Amelia graduated from Belton High School. Young, married, working and with children she also took some classes at the University in the evenings.

She was married to Lupe Torres, they met casually, dated, and then married on February 4th, 1967. They were married at the Hidalgo Court House. Mom wore an avocado green dress. Family was Amelia’s main focus in life, and she loved it all. Known as an exceptional cook, housekeeper and beloved mother and wife. when called upon or someone is in need, nothing was ever a sacrifice to her. She wanted a home for her children that she felt all children should have. Amelia had a big heart regarding her family.  For many years she cooked for the family and hosted gatherings. Thanksgiving and Christmas were at her home. She cooked for whomever would come by and it was usually all her siblings that she helped raise and loved so much. She was very involved in her community.  She attended High School games to be with her daughters and would volunteer to work the concession stand at the games.  She frequently volunteered with her church.

She worked at Scott & White for 35 years at several clerical positions.  he loved helping patients by setting them up with services or doctor appointments. The patients loved her too. They would ask for her by name because they knew she would be empathetic to their individual needs. Most of her travel was to be with family in the Rio Grande Valley.  Although, years ago she had the chance to go to Cancun for a wedding. She referred to that vacation a lot.  She had so much fun. She stayed at a resort and was deservedly pampered. A very important time in her life was being pregnant with twins. Unfortunately, both girls were still born, this made her very sad.

Then she was pregnant again and could not even tell her first two daughters because she was scared to. Then Christina was born, and she was happy again! A very great day in her life was when she searched for her biological father.  She gathered information and then went to Mexico to find him.  She was received by him and his family in such a loving and welcoming manner.  She was overwhelmed with their kindness and acceptance.  She found out that they knew about her and were very happy to meet her.  They have kept in touch by visiting, phone calls and social media. They easily made her feel so special and loved.

Words to describe Amelia would be ADVENTUROUS, she liked to visit historical sites in and around Belton and Austin; FEARLESS, she would not back down when she had her mind set; KINDHEARTED, she took people in that needed food or a place to stay; STRAIGHT FORWARD, she was not shy about sharing a message she wanted to convey.
