MARAFFINOAmelia “Millie” Maraffino was a beloved; Wife, Mother, Grandmother and was born in Jamestown, NY to Antonio and Lucia, immigrants from San Donato, Italy. She was one of 7 children, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Her family soon moved to Philadelphia where she attended Cassidy grade-school and Overbrook High-school. After high-school she started her career at GE in South West Philadelphia where she continued on for 42 years. Shortly after starting her career at GE she met the love of her life, Anthony Maraffino, at a local dance. He saw her from across the room and thought she was the most beautiful woman he ever saw. At the age of 20 they were married. After 11 years of blissful marriage, they welcomed their daughter Marian into the world. The family of 3 started their lives together in South Philadelphia in the Epiphany Parish. A few years later they moved to Overbrook in West Philadelphia. There they lived within blocks of their family; sisters, brothers, cousins and nieces and nephews. After 42 years of hard work as a peace worker at GE, Amelia retired to take care of her two grand-daughters. At 65th and Marlyn Rd Amelia cared for her granddaughters every day after school, taking them to Dance, and after school activities, trips into the city for shopping and had dinner on the table every night for her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. In 1989 Amelia lost the love of her life. For 10 years she lived on her own, caring for her family every day. In 1999 she moved in with her Daughter and family which is where she lived until her joys in life were her family; Daughter, Son-in-law, 3 grandchildren, Michelle, John and Stephanie, and 5 great grandchildren. She had an amazing bond with her great grandchildren, who loved running up to see her after school every day to play cards, watch her shows and receive countless “secretive” gifts of money, candy and chocolates. Millie loved her card games, the casino ( Triple Diamond Slots ), and her shows ( Steve Harvey, any Judge show, Shark Tank, Hugh Jackman and Bradley Cooper – her last joy was watching A Star is Born multiple times and calling her grandchildren to talk about it in depth).Amelia “Millie” Maraffino was a true Matriarch who believed you always put family first, hard work built strong character and to love will be missed by countless people who loved her laugh, amazing cooking and baking and company.
