Amelia Gonzales Guaderrama, 90, a lifelong resident of Deming entered eternal rest Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at home surrounded by her family in Las Cruces.

Amelia was born in Deming on February 5, 1931, to Guadalupe and Luz Gonzales.  As a young girl and into adulthood, she sang in the St. Ann’s Catholic Church choir.  She loved to play volleyball and dance to traditional folklorico music.  As a young woman, she helped her father at the Mimbres Cannery and at the Farmers Association Market in Deming where she met her loving husband, local farmer, Arturo Guaderrama, whom she married in February 1952. Amelia helped on the family farm and began raising a family.  She was always busy with church activities, including her membership in the Sacred Heart League.  As her children grew, she provided spiritual, emotional, and financial support allowing them an opportunity to continue their education and get a start in life.  She worked at various local businesses including Pixie Discount Store, the Department of Motor Vehicles, Safeway Stores, and Kahn’s Bakery as a store manager. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family at all children’s and grandchildren’s gatherings and celebrations.  She was an avid reader and loving disciplinarian who seemed to read her children’s minds and help them through life with consejos (advice), love, and prayer. She was a very social person who helped anyone she could. She held a special place in her big heart for her family, the elderly, and the poor. It is fair to say that for many years she knew and called everyone in Deming a friend. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends and her constant canine companion, Daisy. Her family will be consoled by knowing that she accomplished her Christian mission and was welcomed by the Lord as a good and faithful servant.

Survivors include her 3 children, Jose “Louie” (Bernadette) Guaderrama of Anthony, NM, Oscar Ruben (Wendie) Guaderrama of Las Cruces, NM, and Ana Luz (Raymond) Marquez of Deming; 1 sister, Gloria Alcala of Ventura, CA; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild and many more extended family and friends.

Amelia is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Luz Gonzales; her husband, Arturo Guadaerrama and a brother, Lupe Gonzales Jr.
