Amanda Eisemann passed away peacefully at 12:40 AM on Monday April 15, 2013. Born Amanda Paulina Mathilda Kittlemann on December 17, 1918, she was the youngest child of Hermann and Pauline Kittlemann of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Her older siblings Hilda Schweda Turano, Flora Hanke, and Rudy Kittlemann pre-deceased her. Amanda was a child of the Great Depression and carried the lessons learned during lean times throughout her life. She graduated from North Division High School I in Milwaukee in 1936. Amanda was a beautiful young girl and earned the title of Queen of the DeMoley Ball, as well as her nickname, “Kitty.” While working in a beauty parlor in 1940, Amanda agreed to go on a double date with Carl (Sonny) Eisemann (September 27, 1917 – December, 7 1994) whom she married a year later on January 21, 1941. Together Carl and Kitty raised six (6) children: Carl Ronald (Gabriele) Eisemann, Christine Ann (Denny) Comstock, Eric Lee (Meg) Eisemann, Sharon Ellen (Curt) Lain, Steven Alan (Rosemary) Eisemann, and John David (Maria) Eisemann. If Carl was the bright sun around which the children revolved, Kitty was the heart of the close-knit family, adored by all. The couple moved to Galesburg in 1962 when Carl accepted a position with Knox College. Amanda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, an active member of P.E.O. for forty five years, and a member of the Knox Faculty Wives.
The couple bought a small woodlot and lake in Knox County (SHEBB Oaks) with four other families as a place where the children could work and play outdoors. Amanda enjoyed a full life raising a family. Amanda loved being surrounded by her children and children’s children; she always acknowledged birthdays and other special events in their lives. Amanda expressed her personality by playing the organ, painting in oils, sewing and gardening. She is survived by 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Amanda is also survived by a nephew Donald Schweda (Wauwatosa, WI), nieces Grace Hale and Vivian Buth (Menomonee Falls, WI) and close friends. Amanda died as she lived, surrounded by her loving family.
