Alyce “Nonie” (Kotecki) Bunzell, 84, of LaSalle, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Bunzell was born July 19, 1934 in LaSalle to Anton and Clara (Piccinelli) Kotecki. She married Joseph Bunzell on June 16, 1956 in Granville.
She was a member of St. Hyacinth’s Church, LaSalle and was a former member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, LaSalle where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. “Nonie”, which is an Italian name for grandmother, transcended that title. She was a kind, pure, and selfless woman, who considered all that came into her life family. Her most exceptional talent was creating and nurturing meaningful relationships, regardless of the connection. She had the uncanny ability to be whoever someone needed her to be.
Nonie was also a mentor to many, an amazing cook (feeding everyone), baker, a meticulous and creative cake decorator, voracious reader and the cornerstone of every family gathering. Her unshakable Catholic devotion and constant prayer and rosaries for everyone were inspirational to all and paramount in her daily life. There was never a baby nearby that she did not figure out how to grab and cuddle. This was one of her greatest pleasures as well.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph of LaSalle; her children, Mary Bunzell of Grand Rapids, MI, Robert (Becky) Bunzell of Utica, Ann Thomas of Grand Rapids, MI and Anton (Wanda) Bunzell of Utica; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Bunzell, Clayton (Catie) Bunzell, Torie (Andrew) Kueker, Ryley (Dani) Bunzell, Ashe Giovanni, Paige Bunzell and Autumn Bunzell; three great-grandchildren, Joseph and Byrnadette Bunzell and Reid Kueker and one sister, Ann “Bootsie” Milner of Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Andy Marini. Pallbearers will be Andrew Kueker, Ryley Bunzell, Clayton Bunzell, Nicholas Bunzell, Alan Milner, Dan Milner and Rod Strack.
