Alyce Frances Dawson aka “Bay” (age 80, a resident of Birmingham, AL) died June 8, 2016 at St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Born to the late Henry and Frances (Foreman) Dawson in Hale County, AL on October 19, 1935, she was the oldest daughter of their nine children.
Alyce‘s family moved to Montgomery shortly after she was born and later to Tuscaloosa where she graduated from Druid High School. She later graduated from Tuskegee Institute and received her B.S. Degree. Although she did not attend Stillman College, she was a Charter Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Eta Xi Omega Chapter.
Alyce was always an adventurous person who enjoyed traveling, sewing, bowling and caring for various nieces and nephews. After college, she resided for more than 30 years in Buffalo, NY and was employed by the Buffalo City School System.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers: Benjamin, Evans, Javan, Lovell, and Henry Dawson and two sisters; Loree Carter and Delaine Williams.
Leaving to cherish her memories are: one brother, Lonnie Dawson; two sisters – Mattie Lawson and Delois Dawson; one sister-in-law – Rebecca Dawson; 11 nephews, 16 nieces and countless greats. Alyce was not only the matriarch of the family who provided guidance and love, but she also touched the lives of numerous friends.
