Alvin Dean Bergman, who passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, lived the life of a true Montanan being born to descendants of homesteaders in Roundup on June 27, 1929.  Dean, as he was known to friends and family, built a life based on two careers, first with the Army National Guard where he left with the rank of Major after 20 years and then as an educator where he retired as the Principal of Drummond High School.

Dean moved to Drummond in 1974.  He was passionately involved with the school’s athletic teams both as a coach and supporter and was especially proud of his time coaching the girls’ junior high basketball teams.  Dean also served the valley communities as a Deputy Sheriff’s officer in Granite County.  He continued to give back to the community after he retired through the American Legion and Masonic Lodge, helping at the annual Kiwanis sponsored Drummond Rodeos and many other community activities.

A master’s degree holder from U of M, he was an avid “Griz” fan and liked to joke about the rivalry with his sons who were MSU Bobcat Alumni.

Dean’s active life included being both a fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter pilot in the Guard where he was often chosen to fly Governor Babcock around the state.
