Alvin B. Walker was born November 06, 1927 in Golconda, IL and passed peacefully in the Orlando VA Medical Center on February 8, 2017.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 50 years, Bonnie J. (Bierman); his sister Betty Sue Boyd, Brownsville, TN; as well as his 8 children, Jay Walker, Sarasota Fl, Karen Howard, Cleveland, TN, Brad Walker, Mattoon IL, Brian Walker, Rockledge Fl, Becky Rock, Merritt Island FL, Lori Morris, Viera FL, Jonathon Walker, Chattanooga, TN, and Marty Hustad, Indialantic FL. He was also blessed with 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters, and his son, Albert Duane.
Alvin spent his teenage years working under his father, along with his two brothers, as a ferry boat operator for the company his father owned for over 45 years. He looked back fondly at this time in his life and never missed an opportunity to tell stories about their adventures on the Ohio River.
On February 14, 1946, at the age of 19 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent much of his military career as a Master Sargent-Load Master assigned to bases located in the Azores and the Philippines. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, as well as having the task of cleaning up the effects of World War II.
After leaving the military, Alvin spent most of his career as a contractor for Pan Am, working for the U.S. Government in the equatorial waters of the South Atlantic Ocean, via Grand Turk, Antigua and the Ascension Islands. Mr. Walker also worked as a general contractor, a truck driver, and was a master carpenter.
Al’s greatest accolade is that he loved his Lord Jesus Christ.
